The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health among population

Abstract
Objectives: The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID -19) is a serious health crisis affecting various nations worldwide.
Such widespread outbreaks are related to adverse psychological health consequences. This study investigated the influence of COVID-19 on mental health among population groups.

Methods: This study was a narrative review of the extant literature on psychological symptoms and intervention relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. Existing literature on the COVID-19 outbreak relevant to mental health was retrieved via a domestic and international database. A total of 22 studies were searched.

Results: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about the high prevalence of emotional and cognitive disorders among the general population, medical staff, affiliated healthcare workers, children, and college students. Preliminary evidences have demonstrated the symptoms of vicarious traumatization, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic symptoms, and adjustment disorder symptoms among the subjects. Additionally, the outbreak of COVID-19 has raised significant challenges for mental health of vulnerable population, including older adults, homeless, and migrant workers.

Conclusion: The findings of this study highlight the need for multidimensional interventions regarding psychological health among various population groups.
Furthermore, it is necessary to focus mental health promotion measures and social support on COVID-19 patients and the recovered.
